THE OLD MASTERS

The print is the point

Anyone can sell the image — it’s public domain. What you’re buying here is the object: how faithfully, and how durably, the masterwork lands on your wall.

Colour-managed to the source
Each file is profiled to the holding institution’s own scan, so the print reads as the painting does.

The story

A train crosses Maidenhead bridge through driving rain, and Turner dissolves nearly everything else — bridge, river, valley, sky — into a storm of gold and grey, leaving only the black snout of the engine and the red glow of its firebox to hold their edges. He was sixty-nine, and he was painting the newest thing in the world. Look for the hare running ahead of the train on the track, racing the future and losing. Where The Fighting Temeraire mourns what steam replaced, this one stares straight into it: the machine arriving out of the weather, unstoppable and thrilling.
