THE OLD MASTERS

The print is the point

Anyone can sell the image — it’s public domain. What you’re buying here is the object: how faithfully, and how durably, the masterwork lands on your wall.

Colour-managed to the source
Each file is profiled to the holding institution’s own scan, so the print reads as the painting does.

The story

A ghostly old warship, pale and towering, is towed to her end by a squat, black, fire-belching steam tug — sail giving way to steam, the past to the future, beneath a sky Turner sets ablaze. The Temeraire was a hero of Trafalgar; here she goes to the breaker’s yard, and Turner turns her scrapping into an elegy for an entire age. Voted Britain’s greatest painting, it is a masterclass in how light can carry feeling: that molten sunset is the whole emotion of the picture. Progress, and everything it costs.
